SlicART History
Before founding SlicART in early 1983, owner and artist Ted Davis accumulated nearly ten years of hands-on experience in a variety of positions from production artist to art director, in both the offset and silkscreen printing industries.
Today, SlicART is the stalwart supplier of embellished garments, both screenprinted and embroidered, for many businesses, schools, race tracks, organizations, and events in the Tri-Valley area.
In addition to the silkscreen business, over the years SlicART has owned and operated retail apparel and novelty concessions at several Bay Area racetracks including Baylands Raceway, Petaluma Speedway, Kings Speedway, and Antioch Speedway.
Departments
Art Department
Our art staff is comprised of talented artists with a combined total of over forty years' experience in the commercial art field and a variety of styles and expertise. We use the latest in digital imaging hardware and software, including two state-of-the-art thermal dry-film output devices capable of producing film for printing images up to 18 inches wide by 50 feet long.
Upon receiving your design order, it is promptly turned over to our art department where our team of artists takes your concept and explores design and typographical treatment possibilities. They will mock these ideas up for your approval before moving on to the full design process. In the event you provide your own art (please see our guidelines page), our artists will prepare it for our production process, doing whatever is necessary to maintain fidelity to your original art.
Once a design has been created to fit your design order, supplied art is scanned and/or inked, type is set, color is separated, and a design is finalized. As soon as the art has been approved, your design is then ripped to film and sent to the production department for printing.
Print Production Department
The print production department features a state-of-the-art fully automatic ten-color silkscreen press, complete with two inline flash units, capable of production speeds up to 1000 shirts per hour. We also have two six-color manual rotary presses, a four-color manual rotary press, and a four-color hat press. Such versatility in equipment gives us the flexibility to print just about any job you require.
After leaving the art department, your design's film is taken to the screen department where it is first burned onto one or more silkscreens. These screens are the templates for laying down each color of ink on your garments. Combinations of ink are laid on top of each other in specified percentages to achieve virtually unlimited spectrum of color.
Following printing and drying, your shirts are stacked and/or folded to your specifications before being boxed for shipping. Individual bagging of shirts is also available, courtesy of our automatic bagging machine.
Embroidery Production Department
Embroidery designs are designed in a similar process to printed designs. Once completed, they are taken and digitally plotted into stitches. A sample sew-out is generated for your approval, which can be viewed in person or online.
All embroidery is done in-house on one of our fifteen-color professional Tajima embroidering machines, capable of producing hundreds of garments daily, enabling us to complete your order with high quality and in a timely manner.
